Fig. 1 shows the basic design of the liquid electrochemistry cell for in situ STEM study. The cell contains top and bottom Si chips in rectangular geometry with thin silicon nitride (SiN) windows for electron transparency. The sealing of liquid is achieved by the usage of O-rings and the thickness of the liquid between the SiN membranes is tuned by the spacer sitting between two chips.
